Revoking Provoking

"Parents know all about the
children verses,
and not very much about their own. They remind their children that Ephesians 6:1 says,
'Children obey your parents.'
Parents, take a moment to notice something in Paul's words: He is addressing our
children, not us as parents. Likewise, he does not say, 'Husbands, get your wives
to submit to you,' or 'Wives, get your husbands to act like Christlike leaders.' And
he is not saying here, 'Parents, get your kids to be obedient.' This instruction is
written to children, and misusing scriptures written to others is like opening someone
else's mail.
Parents, stay away from your children's verses. We have our own verses to worry about.
Our verse, Ephesians 6:4, says, 'And, fathers, do not provoke your children to
anger. . . .'
Is Paul telling parents that they should never do anything about which their kids
will feel angry? Not at all. Children are sometimes going to feel angry when they are
asked to do things they'd rather not do. This may even be often for some children.
A person's anger is their own responsibility. Paul is not placing us in charge of
controlling our children's anger, and some parents today mistakenly see it as their
job to keep children happy all the time. Paul is placing us in charge of whether we
provoke or not."
SoAmazing Review: Families Where Grace Is In
Place shows how the Godly practice of 'grace' or 'unmerited favor' can change
family relationships.
