"An undaunted and nonnegotiable loyalty to Jesus--regardless
of the cost--is the key to a deepening, intimate
fellowship with Him. Regardless of what He requires,
those who want to draw close to Him meet Him at that
sweat-stained rock in the Garden and brokenly repeat
His words after Him: "Not my will, but Yours be done."
It is a resolve that covers the whole waterfront of our
existence. Nothing is exempt. Relationships, real
estate, financial resources, spouses, children,
grandchildren, desires, dreams, plans, attitudes, and
actions are all included.
It calls for the bold and determined cessation of that
fulfilling affair.
It demands no flirting around the edges of sensuality
and the immediate resolve to eliminate opportunities for
voyeuristic pleasure with pornography.
It requires the expulsion of jealousy, residual anger,
and the bitterness that tear at our relationships.
Gethsemane asks for it all. Stay at the rock until
there is nothing held back. Then rise, take up your
cross, and follow Him. Remember, no cross is heavier
than His was. When we are committed to rejoicing in
the Lord rather than ourselves and value Jesus and His
perfect will more than our own rights, privileges, and
possessions, the cross of surrender will be an honor,
not a burden.
SoAmazing Review:
Joseph M. Stowell knows that salvation is not by our
works, but he acknowledges there is effort required to follow Him with
our whole hearts. In Simply Jesus he
charts the path to experience all of Him.

"Mutual respect is critical. The exciting chemistry that
sometimes develops between a man and a woman depends on
the perception that each is fortunate to have attracted
the other. The moment one begins to build a cage around
the other and to proclaim, 'I own you,' the game is
over." Dr. James Dobson p. 110,
