Zacharias supplies facts and arguments to demonstrate that the world's religions do
not all point to God and are, at their core, exclusive. It is illuminating!
Henri
Nouwen wrote more than forty books. All of his books that I have read, including this
one, are characterized by Nouwen's gentle spirit and earnest wish to plainly present
spiritual truths. He has succeeded.
This book consists of the very personal notes C. S. Lewis wrote after the death of
his wife. The notes, not initially intended for publication, were published in
the hopes they may help others who are grieving.

The wise men gave gifts to Jesus. Consider giving a gift to Jesus by giving it to a worthy Christian church, organization or group.
"As Moses held up his hands and
stared at the smooth palms, I took advantage of the lull. 'Surely they welcomed you. They must have been astounded to learn that one of their kinsmen had been living in Pharaoh's palace--'
'They hated me.' His nostrils flared. 'My own sister spat upon me. And when I tried to save one of them from a severe beating, anger overtook me, rage mixed with a sense of prideful justice. I defended the man, yes, but I killed an Egyptian captain in the process. Shaken, the next day I went to the village where I had been born, hoping they'd realize that I had set my heart to defend them, but they turned on me in fury.'
His eyes filled with infinite distress. 'How do you help people who will not be helped?' He gestured to the fields, where our flocks grazed on the scrubby grass. 'They are like the sheep in the fold this morning--they will not move unless you goad them with a sharp stick, but I had no stick--at least, none they would respect.'
He reached for his staff, then jabbed the sharpened point into the sand. 'Sheep respond to pain, but the Hebrews have grown accustomed to suffering. Goats respond to sound, but the children of Israel have plugged their ears. I tried to help them, and for my effort I was banished from my home and my people. Worst of all, I discovered that the family I had loved--my mother and yes, even Pharaoh--was no family at all, only a facade.'
He fell silent, and we sat without speaking for a long while. Moses would not meet my gaze, so I stared at the jagged horizon, trying to imagine scenes from the life he had described. I could easily picture him as a king's son--the sandy winds of the desert could never strip away the princely mien that permeated the very fiber of his being. I found it more difficult to envision him as a slave or a murderer, though the anger I'd just witnessed gnawed at my confidence in him.
I think Moses was desperately seeking a place to belong. And though he now wore the long robe and full beard of a desert-dweller, I also think he had not found his place among us. He had lived in our household for five years, accepting our customs, language, and clothing, but he had not truly accepted us. A man who trusts his companions does not need to hold secrets, yet Moses still possessed many.
In many ways, he was as much an outsider as he had been the day we met him at the well. But not to me. He had lifted the veil and allowed me to see his true face, and in that hour I knew I would one day become his wife."
SoAmazing Review:
Moses' and his wife may have been married for 30 or more years before he had his experience with the burning bush, returned to Egypt or walked across the Red Sea.
Angela Elwell Hunt extracts Moses's wife's bio from the Bible and incorporates historical research to expose an intriguing
look at her life. For more of the fascinating details, read The Shadow Women.
"I see the face of Jesus in disguise,' said Mother Teresa about the dying beggars she
would invite into her home in Calcutta--'sometimes a most distressing disguise.'
She, like Ghandhi, understood that the direction of charity is not condescending,
but rather ascending: in serving the weak and the poor, we are privileged to serve
God himself." Philip Yancey, p.157,
