Tragedy struck. The Buford's only son drowned. With it came a test of
character at the deepest levels. Bob Buford shares a simple, helpful

"The second aspect of true, spiritual parenting
is also found in Ephesians 6:4, in what I call 'the parent
verse.' 'Bring [your children] up in the discipline and
instruction of the Lord.'
I use to think Paul was saying, 'Get your children to be
good rule-followers. Teach them how to act.' Following
rules is important, as is learning how to live. But I don't
believe, in light of Paul's teaching about spiritual
filling, that this verse is about rule-keeping. I
believe that Paul is saying, 'Bring your children
along in the fight of faith. Help them learn to really
hang on to Jesus.' This is where we step in to help our
children learn how to allow themselves to keep being
filled with the Spirit.
Most Christian parents focus on the words discipline and instruction, and overlook the bring up.
'Bring up' has uplifting, nurturing, serving
connotations. We are not to beat down or force into.
It is not our job to turn our children into Christian
replicas of Pavlov's dogs, barking out the right Bible
verse for every occasion. Rather, we are to build them
into deeply faithful adults."
SoAmazing Review: Families Where Grace Is In Place teaches parents how to turn their children into "deeply faithful adults."
