A Prayer To Pray!
The arsenal for living life well has
many weapons and The Prayer of Jabez includes one of the
most powerful. Why don't we make it our practice once or twice or three
times a day to pray to God to help us avoid sin? Think of the pain sin
causes, to you and to others. Let's follow the example of Jabez.
A Prayer begins . . .
Heavenly Father, oh, that you would bless us, indeed, and enlarge our
territories. Let your hand be with us, and keep us from evil that we many not cause pain.

Keep Away
Category: Christian Living, Prayer
Keywords: satan, devil, pray, prayer, temptation, sin, Christians, God, Multnomah
Publishers, Wilkinson, Bruce Wilkinson
"We've arrived at one of Satan's hidden strongholds in believers' lives. In my
experience, most Christians seem to pray solely for strength to endure temptations--for
victory over the attacks of our raging adversary, Satan.
Somehow we don't think to ask God simply to keep us away from temptation and keep the
devil at bay in our lives.
But in the model prayer Jesus gave his followers, nearly a quarter of its fifty words
ask for deliverance. 'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil
one' (Matthew 6:13). Nothing about spiritual insight or special powers. Not a word
about confrontation.
When was the last time you asked God to keep you away from temptation? In the same way
that God wants you to ask for more blessing, more territory, and more power, He longs to
hear you plead for safekeeping from evil.
Without a temptation, we would not sin."
SoAmazing Review: Between asking for blessings,
increasing your territory, enlisting God's power, and keeping away from evil, Jabez's
prayer covers a lot of ground. It is ground that all of us should cover. I would not be
surprised if The Prayer of Jabez, reaches the status of a "Christian
classic."

Prayer Circle
Category: Inspiration, Christian Inspiration
Keywords: prayer, Dorotheus of Gaza, God, Riverhead Books, Norris, Kathleen Norris
"While prayer may originate in our own desires, it quickly moves beyond them, into our
life with others, and toward the greater society. The inward/outward dynamic of prayer
is perfectly expressed in the way that the sixth-century monk Dorotheus of Gaza imagined
our world. He saw it as a circle, with God at the center and our lives as lines drawn
from the circumference toward the center. As Dorotheus relates it, the closer the lines
crowd toward God, the closer they are to one another; and the closer they are to one
another, the closer they become to God."
SoAmazing Review: Kathleen Norris' thoughtful
reflections on familiar Christian words bring rich insight to them which will touch
your soul.
