Do It Now!
Do you "do it now?" Do you
know what is right but still don't do it? Perhaps you know
the advice in Proverbs 4:23 (NLT) "Above all else guard your heart, for it affects
everything you do." But, do you follow it? Should you?
There is an appropriate time to recant a bad position you have
taken on some matter, admit an indiscretion, turn from a wrong direction
for your life or stop certain behaviors. The appropriate time is now!
Don't wait for perfect conditions. Do it now!
A Prayer begins . . .
Heavenly Father, we honor your name.
Teach us to love you with our whole hearts. Don't allow us to dally and wait for "perfect conditions." Instead, help us "do it now!"

Homecoming
Category: Church and Ministry Keywords: postmodern,
history, Augustine, Aquinas, minister, salvation, creation, providence, SCG, Summa
contra Gentiles, God, InterVarsity Press, Chang, Curtis Chang
"Those of us who minister to this [postmodern] generation daily encounter firsthand the
paralyzed nature of what some observers call the 'decentered self' or the
'depleted self.' The life stories of these doubting selves seem to have ground to a
halt.
In contrast, Aquinas's story
of knowledge is filled with vigorous movement, action and drama. Like Homer's Odyssey
or Jesus' parable of the prodigal son, Aquinas' tale is of homecoming, only on a grand
philosophical scale. The central dramatic action in SCG [Summa contra Gentiles] is the
epic reunion of humanity with God. This central dramatic action of 'reunite' explains
the order of the four books in SCG. The epic begins with book 1, titled 'God,' the
home to 'all blessedness' who existed before time. Much of the argument in book 2,
'Creation,' centers on establishing that the human soul originated from the creative
action of God. Book 3, 'Providence,' is dominated by discussion of movement: how the
human soul moves by choice, how it seeks to move back to its origin and how it
tragically fails in that motion. Finally, book 4, 'Salvation,' depicts the final
reunion between humanity and God."
SoAmazing Review: Chang shows how both Augustine and
Aquinas entered into the challenger's story, then retold the challenger's story, and
finally captured it. Repeat this pattern, Chang advises, to reach the postmoderns.

Tears Rolled
Category: Fiction, Suspence Keywords: Amy, mommy,
religious, God, prayer, Beverly LaHaye, Zondervan, Blackstock, Terri Blackstock
" 'Amy?' she asked softly, going to sit beside her on the bed.
The little girl didn't answer.
'Amy, I just wanted to tell you that . . . I know how much you loved your mommy. And you
know, your mommy is still with you. Her love didn't die with her. It's still here.
All around you. And I don't want to take her place to make you forget her. I just want
to love you, too.'
Amy didn't answer.
'Amy, when you were a baby, I wanted to keep you then. But I was just a teenager, and I
didn't have a husband, and my father took you away. . . 'Her voice broke, and she tried
to go on. 'I don't want you to think that I gave you away because I didn't love you.
God gave you to the best parents in the world. Your mommy and daddy were so happy to
get you. And when your mommy died, I know that her biggest fear was that she would be
leaving you without a mother.'
Tears rolled out of Amy's eyes, and she closed her eyes to hold them back.
'Amy, I'm not religious like your daddy. I don't really know a lot about God. But I do
know that I've prayed over the years that somehow you would be happy and taken care of
and that you'd have two parents who loved you. And I've prayed that somehow my pain
would go away. Since I've found you, I've believed that God might be answering those
prayers. Maybe it really is what you mom would have wanted. Maybe God has worked it
all out.'
Amy's eyes remained squeezed shut as tears oozed out and rolled across her face."
SoAmazing Review: Terri Blackstock's first 14 books
include two with Beverly LaHaye. She does suspense, sharp emotion, character development
and storytelling well.
