God's Peace!
God's peace is not about the absence of
strife among nations, difficulties at home, or challenging relationships.
It is about rest for your soul, a sense of his presence, meaning in life, and hope
for an eternal future with him. May God's peace be with you!
A Prayer begins . . .
Heavenly Father, creator of the bright sunshine which lights our way,
we give you thanks. Help us to love those already in our lives and those you bring across
our path. Grant us this day your peace in our hearts.

Get Home Before Dark
Category: Church and Ministry
ISBN: 0310233151
Keywords: Laurie, Greg Laurie, God, father, dad, peace, gospel, Motel 6, Zondervan, Staub, Dick Staub
"When a child, Greg [Greg Laurie] was abandoned by his father and came to know him only
later in life. Most remarkable, Greg's reunion with his dad included a spiritual
discussion leading to his father seeking to be restored, not only with Greg, but with
God as well. His father died not long after that. Greg's experience with his dad was
an example of God's timing.
I remember feeling a bit overwhelmed with the realization that there were specific
people listening at that moment for whom this story might trigger an openness to the
gospel. I asked Greg a simple question. What advice do you have for the person,
listening right now, who has not yet made peace with God like your father did?
Greg responded, 'Remember when you were a kid? What would your mom say when you went
outside to play? She'd say, 'Get home before dark.' My advice to anybody who hasn't
made things right with God is to get home before dark. You don't know when you will
die. Don't stay out too late. Come home now before it gets dark.' "
SoAmazing Review: Since long before the phrase was
popularized by the Motel 6 commercials, God has kept a 'light on for you.' You should
really read this whole chapter--it brought tears to my eyes.

Keep Your Fork
Category: Inspiration
ISBN: 0849937051
Keywords: fork, funeral, illness,
future, potluck, Christians, Word, Johnson, Barbara Johnson
"The best illustration of the future that we Christians are promised is the following
story by an unknown writer: 'There was a woman
who had been diagnosed with a terminal
illness and had been given three months to live. So, as she was getting her things in
order, she contacted her pastor and had him come to her house to discuss certain aspects
of her final wishes.
She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service, which Scriptures she would like
read, and which outfit she wanted to be buried in. The woman also requested to be buried
with her favorite Bible. Everything was in order, and the pastor was preparing to leave
when the woman suddenly remembered something very important to her.
'There's one more thing,' she said excitedly.
'What's that?' came the pastor's reply.
'This is very important,' the woman continued. 'I want to be buried with a fork in my
right hand.'
The pastor stood looking at the woman, not quite knowing what to say.
'That surprises you, doesn't it?' the woman asked.
'Well, to tell you the truth, I AM puzzled by the request,' said the pastor.
The woman explained, 'In all my years of attending church socials and potluck dinners,
I always remember that when the main course was being cleared away, someone would
inevitably lean over and say, 'Keep your fork.' It was my favorite part because I knew
that something better was coming . . . like velvety chocolate cake or lemon meringue
pie. Something wonderful was coming, something with substance! So I just want people
to see me there in that casket with a fork in my hand, and I want them to wonder, 'What's
with the fork? Then, I want you to tell them: 'Keep your fork. The best is yet to
come.' "
SoAmazing Review: Barbara Johnson delightfully mixes
the highs and sighs of her life with outlandish humor, stories from friends, favorite
cartoons and strong doses of God's love. Read the book like an enjoyable potluck
. . . and keep your fork.
