Where Is He?
Some say, "Then where is he?"
Do not challenge his words. Jesus has not
forgotten. He is patiently waiting, giving everyone who seeks him time to find
him. When he does return, it will catch many by surprise. Make certain you are
not one of them.
A Prayer begins . . .
Our Father in heaven, who but you has taught us to surrender all of our
cares to you. Is it any wonder that we revere you? Help us to live lives of moral
excellence for we desire to know you better. We eagerly await your return.

Making A Difference

"Adam and Eve must have had fun working together in the garden. No commutes, no child
care, no financial worries. Just the opportunity to be with each other all day and feel
the satisfaction of doing something together that neither could do alone.
We hunger for this today: cooperating together, meshing, working like a mountain climbing
team, ascending the peak of our dream, and then holding each other at the end of the
day. God has planted this hunger deep within every married couple. It's more than a
hunger to create new life. It's a third hunger, a hunger to do something
significant
together. According to God's Word, we were joined to make a difference. We were married
for a mission.
Marriage expert Dennis Rainey says, 'One of the missing ingredients of couples today is
they do not have a mission; they do not have a sense of God having called them together
to do something as a couple.'
But often, as we begin to feel this basic longing, we don't know what it is. We get
the 'seven-year itch' or the '12-year anger' or the '18-year blahs.' We think,
What's wrong with us? Our companionship may not be perfect, but we have each other.
And, many can add, We have our children. So what are we missing?
We may be missing one-third of what God created marriage for--serving Him together.
Counselor James H. Olthuis writes, 'To try to keep love just for us . . . is to kill it
slowly . . . . We are not made just for each other; we are called to a ministry of
love to everyone we meet and in all we do. In marriage, too, Jesus' words hold true;
in saving our lives we lose them, and in losing our lives in love to others, we drink of
life more deeply.' "
SoAmazing Review: Kevin and Karen Miller, in
More Than You and Me, advocate couples serving together,
and agreeing on a mission for their marriage.

Timely Advice
Category: Christian Living
ISBN: 0849937051
Keywords: mothers, help,
encouragement, God, prayer, hourly, work
"No matter how smart we are, weary mothers need lots of help and encouragement--the kind
that comes from family and friends, and especially the kind that comes from God. But
sometimes we get so busy--and so exhausted--we forget to tap into this ultimate
resource. Sometimes all it takes is a reminder. One friend of mine, the mother of two
trying teenagers, bought herself a cheap digital watch that she set to softly chime every
hour. 'Throughout the day, whenever I heard that little beep,' she said, 'I paused a
moment or two in whatever I was doing and whispered a little prayer on behalf of my
kids.'
She told her teenagers what she was doing, and the results were amazing. Her daughter,
stressed out in her high school classroom and unable to focus on the test that lay on the
desk before her, happened to look up at the clock. 'It said ten o'clock, and I
remembered that you were praying for me,' she told her mother one day. 'It was as if a
very calming blanket of peace gently wrapped itself around me, and I was able to clear
my head and finish the test.' Her son confessed to similar results a few years later.
'When I was a senior, there was one day when school was out for the day, and my buddies
and I were out in the parking lot, talking about what we would do for the rest of the
afternoon. They all decided that instead of going to their after-school jobs, they
would hang out at the shopping mall awhile and see if there were any good-looking girls
there. I was all set to go with them, but just then the bell in the church tower across
the street chimed three o'clock, and I suddenly got an image of my Mom, praying for me at
that exact moment. I got in my car and went to work.' "
SoAmazing Review: Barbara Johnson has a gift for
disarming her audience with outrageous humor and then nailing them between the eyes
with the truth.
