Peace Offer!
God mercifully extends his love to all,
including those who live immoral lives, defy authority, mock that which they do not
understand, care only about themselves, grumble, complain and are far from him. He
offers to all a better life, now and forever, filled with his peace. May his gracious
offer be accepted before it is too late.
A Prayer begins . . .
Heavenly Father, creator of life, we give you thanks. We thank you for
your gracious offer of mercy, peace, and love to all, and pray that many will receive it.

Teams Win!
Category: Inspiration, Biography
ISBN: 0061008494
Keywords: team, teams,
Armed Forces, military, General Powell, Joint Pub#1, Gulf War, Zondervan, Powell, Colin
Powell, Roth, David Roth
"In the aftermath of the Gulf War General Powell decided that there was a need for a
military manual that talked in very simple terms about how the services should and could
fight wars. . . .
Powell put his signature to a message inside Joint Pub #1 that betrays his personal
philosophy:
'When a team takes to the field, individual specialists come together to achieve a team
win. All players try to do their very best because every other player, the team, and the
home town are counting on them to win. So it is when the Armed Forces of the United
States go to war. We must win every time. Every soldier must take the battlefield
believing his or her unit is the best in the world. Every pilot must take off believing
there is no none better in the sky. Every sailor standing watch must believe there is no
better ship at sea. Every Marine must hit the beach believing that there are no better
infantrymen in the world. But they must also believe that they are part of a
team, a
joint team, that fights together to win. This is our history, this is our tradition,
this is our future.' "
SoAmazing Review: There are many reasons to read this
book: to learn Colin Powell's life story; to get an inside look at many political and
military leaders; to gain insights into the military life; to sit in on discussions of
military strategies; and, to be exposed to some good, solid life principles.

Great Parents
Category: Inspiration, General Keywords: Christians,
Vacation Bible School, church, Sunday School, Youth Group, God, Fleming H. Revell,
Klein, Patricia Klein, Bence, Evelyn Bence, Campbell, Jane Campbell, Pearson, Laura
Pearson, Wimbish, David Wimbish
"No matter what our age or interests, the church had some program or other for us. Some
things like Sunday School and Morning Worship were considered mandatory. Attendance at
Sunday evening services and Wednesday night prayer meeting showed us to be more
spiritually minded. (It also allowed us to see our friends.) Youth group, summer camp,
and Vacation Bible School all catered to the special needs and interests of the
young.
Parents were amazing about these programs! Most of them volunteered for all sorts of
duties that few folks in their right minds would do. Would you seriously consider
volunteering to go to a mosquito-infested summer camp to cook for a bunch of kids?
Would you spend hours developing lessons and handcrafts and cutting out flannelgraphs so
you could teach twenty-five grade-schoolers in Vacation Bible School? Would you ever in
a hundred years teach a mixed class of junior high kids?
But our folks did. They considered the church and all its programs to be a logical
extension of the spiritual teachings begun at home.
And they went out of their way to see that we not only got our spiritual teaching but
that we also had every opportunity to have good Christian fun--well protected from the
influences of the world!"
SoAmazing Review: Growing Up Born Again remarkably
reflects on the mindset, activities, and parental challenges of an era largely past. It
does so with panache and ample doses of both parody and attitude. Did my parents write
this book? Nah!
